IRC Open League 2017 Middle Level


Problem Statement:

To build a pair of wired/wireless Robots out of Avishkaar kits that can automate home construction in the Tomorrowland.

Problem Description:

Your team will be tasked to develop two robots (called Crabots) that will be used for construction. These crabots are a “range of small flexible manageable cranes and robotic machines” that can be used to lift and move objects at Construction site.

Both the Crabots would have to carry out a myriad of tasks on the construction site ranging from identifying different pre-fabricated construction pieces to picking/dropping these pieces and finally assembling them to become meaningful structures like Schools, Autonomous factories, Hospitals, Bridges etc. All these tasks would involve different kinds of mechanisms and its best to select specific mechanisms for each of the bots.

Crabot 1:

CraBot 1 is the first robot that has been tasked to ensure that it grips, pulls or drag and drops various material used in Construction.

Note: The size of the Base of the Robot cannot exceed more than 9 inches by 9 Inches.

Crabot 2:

CraBot 2 is the second robot that has been tasked to ensure that it grips, push and drops the material used in Construction.

Note: The size of the Base of the Robot cannot exceed more than 9 inches by 9 Inches.

Arena

  • The length & width of the arena is 6 feet x 9 feet.
  • Arena is placed on the ground within a boundary made out of EVA sheets.
  • CraBot1 and CraBot2 would be kept at any of the start points on Arena.
  • The arena is made up of flex sheets – a kind of material used for display advertising. They will be placed in a way that we can provide bump-free surface for the bots to move.

Arena Details

Arena Tasks:

Construction of School: Crabots have to work together to construct a school building of 3 levels i.e. floor of building starting from Level 1 (base) to two more on top of that. For the design of School building you can refer to the prop details.
Construction of Community Health Care Center: Crabots have to construct a Hospital which is again of two levels, for more details of building refer to the prop details.
Construction of Automated Factory: Crabots have to construct an automated factory on the given space on arena which also has an fume purifying chimney along with it.
Construction of Affordable Houses: Crabots have to construct a affordable housing complex in the city, design can be referred in prop details.
Construction of Bridge: Crabots have to complete an under construction bridge at the given space on arena by placing remaining parts of Bridge in between the semi finished bridge.
Construction of a Shopping Mall: Crabots have to construct a Building of shopping mall which is constructed of 2 levels.
Note:Tasks can be performed in any sequence as per the strategy designed by the participants.

Note: All the buildings need to be made inside their respective boundaries only. Failure to do so would fetch you half of the points for the base, however, the above levels of the building shall fetch you complete points.

Prop Description

Middle Level Rules and Regulations

  • The duration of the run will be 6 minutes and there won't be any trial time provided for the run on the event day.
  • There is no restriction in the number of motors/brains used per robot.
  • Only Avishkaar kits are allowed to build these Robots.
  • A power source of 7.5 Volts and 2200 MAH current is allowed in the bots.
  • Participants can touch the Robots only when they are in the start areas and nowhere else. They can add/remove mechanisms only in start area.
  • If any of the Robot goes out of the arena, the referee would bring it back to the respective Start area and the arena props (if they were attached to the robot in some manner) to their respective start locations, the timer shall continue to work.
  • If a team is able to finish all its tasks before time, all the props will be refurbished on the arena and the team can start scoring points again.
  • If a Robot falls or stops functioning on the arena, the Referee would pick it and place it back on the start area on the arena. In case if a prop is attached to the Robot while doing this, the prop would be placed back to its respective place but no points would be awarded for the same.While referee brings the robots and props to their respective locations, the timer shall continue to work.
